Yorkshire - Summer Camp 2026

Another day, another unforgettable adventure!

The reports and updates continue to come in from camp, and Wednesday certainly didn't disappoint. Today's activities took our cadets out into the stunning Yorkshire countryside for a day that tested resilience, teamwork and confidence in equal measure.

Dry Gorge Walking – Barbondale Valley

The morning began in the beautiful Barbondale Valley, where the cadets met Luke from Vertical Skills, who would be leading them through the day's adventurous activities.

Dry gorge walking is far more than simply walking through a valley. Cadets were challenged to climb, scramble and carefully pick their way across rocky terrain, navigating natural obstacles while learning to trust both their own abilities and those of their teammates.

The updates from staff couldn't have been more positive. Every cadet embraced the challenge, encouraging one another throughout the morning and offering a helping hand whenever it was needed. Whether conquering a difficult scramble or boosting a teammate's confidence before tackling the next obstacle, the spirit of teamwork was evident throughout the activity.

Experiences like these build far more than physical fitness—they develop resilience, communication, leadership and the confidence to tackle challenges head-on.

Into the Darkness – Runscar Cave Complex

Another day, another unforgettable adventure!

The reports and updates continue to come in from camp, and Wednesday certainly didn't disappoint. Today's activities took our cadets out into the stunning Yorkshire countryside for a day that tested resilience, teamwork and confidence in equal measure.

After a well-earned break, the adventure continued underground as the cadets headed to the Runscar Cave Complex, again under the expert guidance of the team from Vertical Skills.

For many, caving is a completely new experience. Leaving daylight behind, the cadets explored the fascinating underground world, carefully making their way through winding passages and natural rock formations.

Caving requires patience, trust and determination. Working together, cadets encouraged each other through the more challenging sections, proving once again how supportive and resilient they have become over the course of the week.

It's experiences like these that push cadets beyond their comfort zones in a safe and supportive environment, often leaving them with a real sense of achievement by the end of the day.

Building Memories

One of the greatest aspects of Summer Camp is the opportunity to experience activities that many young people would never normally have access to. Every day brings a new challenge, new friendships and new memories that will last long after the camp has ended.

From museums and climbing walls to aerospace engineering, laser tag, battlefield exercises, gorge scrambling and now caving, this year's programme continues to offer an incredible variety of experiences that showcase exactly what the RAF Air Cadets is all about.

A special thank you goes to CI Barbrooke and CI Scarbro, whose regular updates and commentary have allowed those of us back home to share in the cadets' adventures. Their messages have helped keep parents, staff and supporters connected to everything happening on camp, and they are very much appreciated.

With more adventures still to come, we look forward to sharing the next chapter of Summer Camp 2026. Keep an eye on our page for further updates!
