Last night, 863 (Thurston) Squadron hosted a successful New Recruits Parents’ Evening, welcoming families eager to learn about the exciting opportunities that the Air Cadets can offer. The event was led by Officer Commanding Miles Green, who delivered an insightful presentation highlighting the many benefits of cadet life, from personal development and adventure to aviation experiences and the sense of fellowship shared by all cadets.
OC Miles Green spoke passionately about how being a part of the Air Cadets offers young people a unique combination of learning new skills, leadership opportunities, and activities that build confidence and character. He emphasised the variety of experiences available to cadets, from flying and gliding to outdoor adventure training and community service, all while gaining valuable qualifications and life skills.
A special thanks goes to Cadets Cpl Clifton, Cdt Brown, Cpl O’Flynn, and Sgt Johns, who actively engaged with the parents during the evening. Their firsthand insights into cadet life and their own personal experiences provided valuable perspectives, and they expertly answered the many questions posed by the audience.
The evening wouldn’t have been complete without the support of CIv COM (The Trust), who not only ensured that refreshments were on hand but also gave a brief talk on the important role they play in supporting the squadron. Their commitment to the continued growth and success of the squadron is greatly appreciated.
One of the standout successes of the evening was the strong turnout of 17 new recruits, a clear sign of the squadron’s growth and its bright future ahead. The enthusiasm shown by both the new recruits and their families promises positive times for 863 (Thurston) Squadron, and we look forward to welcoming these new cadets into the fold.
Thank you to everyone who made the evening a success, and we are excited to see what the future holds for our ever-growing squadron!
