On Saturday, 8th March, cadets from across our sector gathered for the inaugural Sector Tag Rugby Festival, which promotes healthy competition and team spirit between the four sister squadrons: Thurston, Bury St Edmunds, Sudbury, and Stowmarket. Sergeant O’Flynn meticulously organised the festival, which aimed to bring cadets together in an exciting, fast-paced, and competitive environment, encouraging fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

The beautiful weather added to the perfect playing conditions, creating a brilliant day for sport. Enthusiasm and morale remained high throughout, with cadets giving their all in every match.

Despite the original plan to have all four squadrons compete, only Thurston and Bury St Edmunds were able to field teams on the day due to mitigating circumstances. However, this did not dampen the competitive spirit, and with a revised match schedule, both teams took to the field with courage, determination, and an unwavering drive to claim victory as the first-ever Sector Tag Rugby Champions.

The headline match saw Thurston and Bury St Edmunds go head-to-head in an intense battle of agility, speed, and tactical play. The game was electric, with both teams demonstrating exceptional skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

Following the main match, a second game was played with mixed teams formed from both squadrons. This match showcased collaborative teamwork as players quickly adapted to new teammates, demonstrating impressive flexibility and sportsmanship. The “Yellow” team came out victorious, though no official stats were recorded. Regardless of the final score, the match was a fantastic display of team spirit and mutual respect between the cadets.

A huge thank you to:
• SGT O’Flynn for his exceptional planning, organisation, and leadership in making this event possible.

The Tag Rugby Festival was a huge success, and we hope to see even greater participation next time, with all four sister squadrons taking part. With such a strong foundation of competition and camaraderie, this event has the potential to become a beloved annual tradition for our sector.
