7 AEF- An Early Start and a Flight in a Grob Tutor

It was a very early start at Thurston HQ for CDT Sutton, CDT Crissall, CDT Morris and CDT Teixeira. Four flying places with No. 7 Air Experience Flight (7 AEF) were available to Thurston Squadron, and these were the four cadets selected. CI Crissall and CI Heard drove them to RAF Cranwell and supervised them throughout the visit.

Cranwell is somewhere we think of as the symbolic home of the Air Training Corps, which made it a fitting place for our cadets to experience the flying side of cadet life. Each cadet spent around 20 to 25 minutes in the air aboard a Grob Tutor, a training aircraft used by the RAF. After learning about flight back at the squadron, they got to see the runway fall away beneath them from the cockpit.

All four cadets shone in the way they conducted themselves throughout the visit. The supervising flight staff gave overwhelmingly positive and encouraging feedback about how the cadets carried themselves. It was good to hear that each of them had made such a strong impression while representing Thurston Squadron.

Well done to CDT Sutton, CDT Crissall, CDT Morris and CDT Teixeira. Thank you to CI Crissall and CI Heard for giving their time and taking on the early drive, and to the team at 7 AEF for getting our cadets airborne and sending them home with such encouraging feedback.
