On the 5th of July, Norfolk and Suffolk wings came together to compete in various events throughout the day. From 9 to 6:30, cadets from 21 different squadrons across the wing took part in tug of war, first aid, archery, fight recognition, STEM and field craft.

We started off the day with tug of war, with each win bringing us closer to the final, although we only won against our 1st opponent. We then continued to first aid, where we were given a scenario to put our skills to the test- this went very well as we came 3rd overall in this activity!

Next we had archery- a much better score than we had practising at the squadron previously. Even a few bullseyes!

Air recce was when we had to decide who to send in and who our experts were; two of our team in particular. A small room was set up with modal airfield and planes that we had to identify by looking at them or using binoculars. We not only had to name the aircraft but also its role and number. Our team was split into two and was sent in one at a time.

Our second-to-last event was stem inside one of the hangers, which, after almost a whole day out in the sun, was very nice. For STEM, we were given balls that were controlled by a tablet and a coding app. We had one group coding our ball to follow a particular course in the fastest time, and another driving the ball around. This event was one we hadn't practised beforehand at the squadron, so all things considered, we thought we had done well.

For fieldcraft, we had multiple different parts to do within WING FIELD 2025, including a quiz, our application of camouflage cream, hand signals and a 60-meter leopard crawl race. We completed all of their tasks with varying success (our best probably being hand signals).

To finish off, we all sat down waiting for the final results to be revealed. CWO Millard was even taking the whole of N/S wing, and although unfortunately we didn't win, our name did come up once after coming third place in first aid. Well done to all the squadrons who took part, and congratulations to 1986 Wymondham Sqn for winning this year’s competition. The day was definitely something we all enjoyed, with its healthy competition and being able to mix with other cadets from across the wing. But most of all, a big thank you to all the staff who made the day possible!
