New Recruits Diary: Week 3, Day 5 - Orienteering Special Event

This evening was all about preparing for the upcoming Wing Field Weekend with a key skill: orienteering. The entire squadron gathered at Nowton Park, a picturesque setting located in the southern part of Bury St Edmunds. Known for its ideal landscape, the park provided the perfect environment for cadets to practice low-level navigation.

The session was designed to teach newer recruits the basics of orienteering, while senior cadets had the chance to apply the skills they had previously learned. Well-prepared for a chilled evening of night navigation, the cadets were kitted out in appropriate attire for the task ahead.

Under the guidance of a dedicated team of Civilian Instructors, led by CI Groves, and supported by the hardworking NCO team, the cadets were split into teams and given tasks to complete throughout the park. Nowton Park proved to be an excellent venue—both superbly safe and challenging enough for all levels.

A special thanks to CI Groves and the NCO team for their efforts in organizing such a successful event! We would also like to express our gratitude to the TCT for their funding of new orienteering equipment, which helped make the evening possible.
