Rickinghall Car Show 2026

The Rickinghall Car Show brought together a lively crowd and a strong sense of spirit, thanks in large part to the dedicated support from 863 (Thurston) Squadron. The event, held at Rickinghall Village Hall on Hinderclay Road, was a day filled with fun activities, teamwork, and a shared commitment to helping others. The squadron’s cadets and adult volunteers played a vital role throughout the day, demonstrating excellent behaviour and enthusiasm that reflected well on the entire team.

Supporting the Event with Energy and Enthusiasm

From early morning, the squadron’s cadets and volunteers arrived ready to assist. Their tasks were varied and essential to the smooth running of the car show. They helped stall holders unload vehicles and set up their stalls both inside the hall and outside on the grounds. This hands-on support made a big difference in ensuring the event started on time and ran efficiently.

At the entrance, cadets welcomed visitors and helped manage the flow of people, creating a friendly and organised atmosphere. They also took responsibility for keeping the site clean by picking up litter throughout the day. This attention to detail helped maintain a pleasant environment for everyone attending.

The squadron’s presence was not just practical but also informative. Their outdoor gazebo featured engaging activities such as Splat the Rat and a bottle game, which attracted families and children. Inside the hall, the flight simulator was a popular attraction, showcasing the skills of cadets experienced in flight simulation. This interactive element gave visitors a glimpse into the squadron’s activities and encouraged interest in joining.

A Well-Organised Team Effort

The event was carefully planned to ensure cadets were supported and safe. The organisers made it clear that cadets would wear their MTP uniforms where possible, presenting a professional and united image.

The day was split into two shifts to cover the full event hours from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Team 1 worked from 7:00 am to 12:00 pm, and Team 2 took over from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Many cadets chose to stay longer, showing their dedication and enjoyment of the event. The squadron leaders, Sergeant Weeks and Corporal Trumpess, provided strong guidance and encouragement throughout the day.

The support from Civcom was also notable. Their involvement helped coordinate the fundraising efforts and ensured the squadron’s activities ran smoothly.

Fundraising and Community Impact

One of the key highlights of the day was the fundraising opportunity provided by the event. The squadron’s activities, including the games and flight simulator, helped raise funds that support the squadron’s ongoing programmes and community projects. Fundraising is a vital part of the squadron’s ability to offer enriching experiences to cadets, and events like this make a real difference.

The community spirit was evident not only in the fundraising but also in the way everyone worked together. Families, visitors, stall holders, and volunteers all contributed to a positive atmosphere. The squadron’s well-behaved cadets were a credit to their leaders and the wider organisation, showing respect and enthusiasm that inspired others.

The availability of refreshments on site and the free entry for helpers made the day comfortable and welcoming for all involved. Cadets brought their own lunches and drinks, prepared for a full day of activity and engagement.

Their dedication, combined with the support from Civcom and event organisers, created a memorable day for everyone.

For cadet parents, potential new cadets, and families, this event showcased the benefits of joining the squadron: opportunities to develop skills, take part in community events, and contribute to meaningful fundraising efforts. The squadron’s presence at local events like this strengthens community ties and builds confidence and pride among cadets.
