PROJECT AZURE:
A New Recruits Training Project.
Unleashing Potential and Empowering Thurston Air Cadets
At 863 (Thurston) Squadron, we’re excited to launch Project Azure in November 2024, a comprehensive training initiative aimed at equipping new recruits with foundational skills necessary for their journey through the Air Training Corps. This project focuses on six key subjects at the Blue (starter) level:
1. Radio Communication – Introducing cadets to the basics of radio operations, helping them develop effective communication techniques.

2. Space Exploration – Sparking curiosity about space and the role it plays in aerospace development, providing a gateway to more advanced learning.

3. First Aid – Equipping cadets with vital lifesaving skills and the knowledge to handle emergency situations with confidence.

4. Pre-DofE (Duke of Edinburgh) – Laying the groundwork for the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh Award by preparing cadets for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

5. Leadership – Teaching the principles of effective leadership and decision-making, with practical exercises in SMEAC (Situation, Mission, Execution, Any Questions, Check Understanding).

6. Cybersecurity – Offering an introductory course in cyber awareness, a precursor to the Bronze-level Cyber training, helping cadets understand the basics of online security.

Project Azure is designed to provide a strong foundation in these diverse areas, setting recruits on the path toward success within the Air Training Corps. Through engaging lessons and hands-on activities, cadets will gain practical experience that prepares them for more advanced training and future leadership roles.
This project reflects our commitment to nurturing well-rounded, skilled individuals ready to take on new challenges.
