Today brought an unexpected and thrilling opportunity for cadets at 863 (Thurston) Squadron. Thanks to the efforts of OC Miles Green, who swiftly organised the event, our cadets were able to spend an exhilarating day glider flying at RAF Honington alongside the 611 Squadron. The surprise opportunity was met with enthusiasm and excitement, and it turned out to be an unforgettable experience for all involved.
The day was blessed with excellent flying conditions and perfect weather, setting the stage for an ideal day of gliding. Under the guidance of experienced pilots, our cadets had the chance to soar through the skies, experiencing the thrill and challenge of piloting a glider. For many, it was their first taste of flying, and it certainly left a lasting impression.
The cadets were able to learn about the fundamentals of glider flight, including handling and control techniques, and some even had the opportunity to take the controls under the watchful eyes of the instructors. The excitement was palpable as each cadet took to the skies, and the smiles on their faces as they landed said it all.
A special thanks goes out to CI Emmanuelle Millard, who volunteered her time to supervise our cadets throughout the day. Her dedication ensured that the day ran smoothly and that all cadets were able to make the most of this fantastic experience.
Also to OC Miles Green for bringing this opportunity together so quickly.
Days like today highlight the incredible opportunities that being a part of the Air Cadets can offer. From flying experiences to learning new skills, each cadet had the chance to challenge themselves and create memories that will last a lifetime. We are immensely grateful to 611 Squadron for making this last-minute opportunity possible and demonstrating once again the commitment to providing our cadets with exceptional experiences.
