An Exclusive Experience for New Cadets
On 30th November 2024, 863 (Thurston) Squadron will host its Recruits Training Camp (RTC), a dedicated day for our newest members to dive into an exciting range of hands-on activities designed to build confidence, resilience, and teamwork.
RTC offers new cadets an immersive experience where they will develop essential skills in outdoor survival, leadership, and emergency response, while also fostering fellowship with their peers. The day’s activities, part of Project Azure, are carefully tailored to introduce recruits to the core values and practical skills of the Air Cadets.
Highlights of the RTC:
Camp Cooking
Practical and fun, this session teaches cadets how to safely prepare and cook meals outdoors, even in challenging conditions.
Tent Pitching and Disassembly
Setting up and packing down a camp is an essential skill. Recruits will practice pitching and taking down tents quickly and efficiently.
Sports: Teamwork and activity
To boost teamwork and physical fitness, recruits will engage in these dynamic sports. They’ll develop collaboration, communication, and endurance while having fun with their teammates.
Uniform
Discipline and presentation are key aspects of being an Air Cadet. This session focuses on maintaining uniform standards and practice, as well as building precision and teamwork.
First Aid Training
As part of Project Azure, recruits will receive basic Emergency First Aid (EFA) training. This prepares them to handle medical emergencies and provide life-saving assistance when needed. CPR, Choking and Bleed.

The Recruits Training Camp is a cornerstone of the cadet journey at 863 (Thurston) Squadron. It provides a foundation for new members, equipping them with practical skills and instilling the core principles of teamwork, leadership, and discipline.
