"I was going to write 'Christmas Season is on the horizon', but it seems earlier and earlier every year, and we're in the middle of it already! And that can be a mixed bag. Many don't enjoy the looming pressure of spending more time, money and energy on the season, and the thought of Great Uncle Maurice and his wacky worldview being shared over Boxing Day cold cuts and pickles can leave us a bit apprehensive!
However, I think that in an uncertain world, the spirit of Christmas can't come soon enough. The Nativity story is one that has hope at its centre - the hope of peace and joy for all humankind, where everyone has a place at the table and everyone is welcomed.
That is not a bad thing to hope for. Part of my job as a Padré to the Squadron is to help keep that hope central to all that we do, that everyone has their part to play and that when we are together as one, that which we hope for is reached.
For the Squadron it means being the best cadet or staff member we can be. For our lives outside the Squadron, it means being the best citizen we can be, to lead by example.
It is odd to think that the story of that tiny baby born in a stable in Bethlehem can have a bearing on Squadron life, but it really does! Being united as one for a good and common purpose.
SO a good time to remind you that the 863 Sqn Carol Service is at St Peter's Church Thurston on 12th December 1900. Do please come along and be part of that time of celebration, song and unity (and to see if you can make it through the whole if Ding Dong Merrily on High!).
I look forward to welcoming you all!
With Christmas blessings,
Padré "
