Today, the streets of Bury St Edmunds were filled with pride, tradition, and remembrance as 863 (Thurston) Squadron joined alongside 301 Squadron for the annual Battle of Britain Parade near Abbey Gardens.

It was truly a sea of cadets – smartly turned out, shoulders back, and heads held high – each one honouring one of the most crucial battles in our nation’s history. The parade served as a powerful reminder that the courage and sacrifice of the RAF during the summer of 1940 remain a cornerstone of the freedoms we enjoy today.
The weather, almost as if in respect, blessed us with sunshine. Marching through the town, 863 Squadron stood side by side, their jumpers proudly marking their identity, every step echoing with tradition and remembrance.

Spectators lined the streets, watching as the cadets demonstrated not only discipline and respect, but also the spirit of community that events like this bring. For many, it was an emotional sight: young people carrying forward the memory of those who fought for Britain’s survival, ensuring their legacy continues through the generations.
The Battle of Britain Parade is more than just a march; it is a living tribute, a lesson in history, and a display of gratitude. Today, Bury St Edmunds witnessed that legacy carried with dignity and pride by the cadets of 863 and 301 Squadrons.

As always, a special thanks goes to Flt Lt Green for leading his squadron with dedication and pride. Our gratitude also extends to CI Barbrooke for his photographic contribution, capturing the day so it can be remembered and shared, and to our additional CIs for their unwavering support and supervision throughout the event.

We honour the past, but also look to the future – inspired by the courage, resilience, and unity shown both then and now.
